A Note from Superintendent Chuck Sincere

June 11, 2018

A Note from Superintendent Chuck Sincere

Dear Parents, Grandparents and Community Members,

With the close of the school year, it is time to congratulate our seniors who graduated, June 1, 2018. One hundred sixty-seven students received diplomas representing Springfield Local School’s Class of 2018. The class had many academic and athletic accomplishments while at Springfield and we are proud of each and every student. We wish all of our graduates much success in their future.

Our district now turns its attention to the preparation for next year. Instructionally we continue to focus on having student’s college or career ready at graduation.  Many of our teachers have scheduled professional development this summer.  We also continue to center our curriculum on national and state required learning standards with ongoing preparation for assessments and End of Course Exams.

At the high school next year, we will continue to implement College Credit Plus courses. The district works with The University of Akron, Kent State, Walsh University and Stark State on College Credit Plus coursework. Many of our students took advantage of this program last year and we anticipate the same next year.

At the elementary level we are continuing with our “Leader in Me” program. We expect to have all students (K-3) actively involved.

Summer school will again be offered for high school students online with instructional help from one of our high school teachers.

We will also offer  “Safety Town” for incoming kindergarten students living in the district.  Feel free to contact the buildings or district office if you need registration information.

The close of the school year will mark the retirement of some of our employees. Staff members that retired this year include: Teacher Cheryl Anderson, Teacher Cheryl Syx, Café Manager Annetta Cline, Library Clerk Connie Waycaster, Student Activities Clerk Kay Greathouse, Teaching Assistant Mary Errington, Library Clerk Verlin McCulley, Café Manager Geraldine Wood, and Secretary Deby Bretz.

We wish all of our retirees the very best in their future endeavors. Please join me in thanking them for their dedication to Springfield Schools at our June Board meeting.

We wish all of our students and staff an enjoyable and safe summer vacation full of relaxing time with family and friends. The Superintendent’s Office is open all summer. As always, feel free to contact me by phone at 330-798-1111 or email at with any questions you have about our district.

There has been a lot of accomplishments and exciting news this year in Springfield. To learn more, follow us on Facebook and Twitter (Springfield Local Schools) for occasional updates throughout the summer.

Have a great summer,

Chuck Sincere
