The 2014-2015 school year is off to a fantastic start! The students are adapting to their new classrooms and they are already actively engaged in learning. We are excited to announce that we were able to move our computer lab back into a classroom this year. The extra space that is now available in the building will allow us to create more productive environments for our student learners.
Our fall fundraiser began on September 9 and your children brought home information on how you can buy/renew your magazine subscriptions and order your fall cookie dough. The profits from our fundraiser will go towards initiating The Leader in Me program into our school. Thank you in advance for your participation.
Our next parent group meeting for the 2015-2016 school year will be held October 20, 2015 at 6:00 in the Young School gymnasium. We encourage you to come and find out how you can be an active member of this wonderful, dedicated group of parents who plan a variety of activities throughout the year. We are excited to introduce our new parent group president, Becky Bittinger.
Our fall photo day will be on October 6, 2015. Information will be coming home ahead of time for you to preorder photos. We are, once again, using Lifetouch as our photo company and we are very happy with the service they have given us in the past.
We are very excited to share with you a great opportunity for our kindergarten families. With the support of a GAR Grant, we are, once again, implementing a “Parent Academy” which will meet quarterly throughout the school year in order to connect the families with the teachers. This school/family connection will support our kindergarten students as they become new readers. These academy nights will include presentations by our students, tips and guidance to assist your young readers and make ‘n’ take activities to play at home. We hope to see you all at our first Academy Night on October 8, 2015.
We welcome Miss Chelsea Luli as our new elementary tutor. She is a graduate from The University of Akron with a degree as an Intervention Specialist with a Mild/Moderate licensure. She lives in Randolph where she grew up and attended Waterloo High School. She loves sports, especially soccer. She also enjoys being outside whenever possible and enjoys boating, kayaking, and golfing. She is very family oriented and enjoys spending time with her family. She has a bloodhound named Louie, who is highly spoiled and is her 95 lb. baby. She looks forward to starting her teaching career at Young and is excited to work with the Young School students!
We want to send out a special thank you to Alex Reed. He is currently attending Springfield High School and recently completed his Eagle Project as he researched, built and installed “Buddy Benches” on the Young School & Spring Hill playgrounds. The purpose of a Buddy Bench is to have a place for a child to go who is wanted to find a friendly person to play with at recess. When children see a child on the Buddy Bench, they immediately welcome that child into the group or activity they are currently playing. It has been very successful here at Young and we anticipate more positive impact in the future.
Congratulations goes out to all of our 2014-2015 “Principal’s Math Club” members. The following students met the math fact requirements and were rewarded with a trip to the movie “Home” this past May.
