Freeze/Leonhardt/Williams/Housley
Our pod recently took a trip to the
Magical Theater to see a Christmas Carol.
The students enjoyed eating lunch at Anthe’s Prime. The students were really excited to see a
live performance. We have also been busy
preparing for the new assessments that we will be taking this year. The tests will be on the computer this year,
so we have been using different websites and programs to help improve skills.
Physical Education
Physical Education Classes participated in the “Don’t Be a
Turkey” Strength Challenge in November.
Students were tested in the following exercises: plank, table-top, wall
sits & sit-ups. At the end of the
challenge, over 600 awards were given to students for improving their scores
from the pre-tests. Results are posted
on Mrs. Kern’s teacher page. Other fall
events included the Glow Run, Turkey Trot, Running Club Race, Reindeer Run and
our new Cross Country Team. Pictures
& results of these activities are also on Mrs. Kern’s teacher page. Currently in PE students are being assessed
on various fitness tests, movement patterns, fitness facts and other skills
that are included in the State PE
Standards & Assessments.
After school activities for the winter include: Winter Running Club,
Yoga & Jump Rope Club.
Mrs. Smethers
Mrs.
Smethers’ and Mrs. Cymbor’s class has
been learning measurement through cooking.
In this photo the class is preparing Calzones, a pizza-like sandwich. They measured ½ cup of water for the dough,
divided the pepperoni slices to even amounts per student, 3 tablespoons of
sauce, and ¼ cup of cheese for each
sandwich. The sandwiches were then cooked approximately 4 minutes in a panini
press. They have also prepared French
toast and are making cheese and chocolate Fondu in two weeks. All the students
agree that cooking is their favorite math activity.
Miss Wright
Miss
Wright's class made Molecule posters representing States of Matter including
Solid, Liquid, Gas, and Plasma. Working with friends and independently,
students learned that atoms are positioned differently inside each different
type of Matter Molecule!
Zehner/Johnston/Denczak
Students in Mrs. Zehner's class, Mrs. Johnston's class, and Mrs. Denczak's class have been learning about the Earth, Moon, and Sun. They had fun creating 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional models representing the Earth, Moon, and Sun. Pictured with their models are: Michael Fuller, Angel Archer, Alicia Franco-Ridenour, Josh Bradley, Blake Conley-Roberson, and Ty Dziados.
