Young Elementary School hosted the 55th Annual Young School Carnival on March 22, 2014. Thank you to the hundreds of volunteers who made the carnival a success!!! Our parent group has been very busy this spring with many wonderful events. They are funding the transportation to many field trips such as the Akron Zoo, the Cleveland Zoo, Seiberling Nature Realm, Barberton Magical Theatre, and the Civic Theatre. They also hosted our kindergarten Grandparent's Day along with the BOGO book fair. Our kindergarten students had a lovely morning performing for their grandparents and then showing their loved ones their classrooms. Each spring, many of our classrooms and Young Elementary School create and publish classroom books through Student Treasures. The students go through the full writing process of drafting, editing, revising and publishing. They are very proud to see their final copies go to print. The Children's Concert Society The Children's Concert Society treated us to an educational musical assembly on May 12, 2014. The focus of the assembly was on percussion instruments and how music was created. The gym was filled with laughter and rhythm all morning long. Our annual Right to Read Week has the students at Young Elementary School "WILD ABOUT READING!" The entire week revolved around jungle animals as the students read tons of animal books and learned all about the jungle. They even raised money to adopt a snow leopard and Callin Finley was our winner of the Akron Zoo tickets. Young Elementary School was extremely excited to be selected by NEA to receive a visit from the Cat-A-Van. We received a $500 donation to purchase additional books for our library and the Cat in the Hat, Thing 1 and Thing 2 were all here to join in on the festivities. The 2013-2014 yearbooks are in and they are beautiful. Thank you to Mrs. Frola who assembled the yearbook for us. We have a few extra copies in the school office for $15 if you are still interested in purchasing one. This spring, a small group of teachers and administrators attended The Leader in Me Symposium in Columbus, Ohio. We were thrilled to visit elementary schools filled with students who were "living" The Leader in Me habits. The staff at Young Elementary will be participating in professional development next school year and begin incorporating these habits into our elementary curriculum. We, at Young Elementary School, wish everyone a wonderful, safe summer. We will return on Wednesday, August 27, 2014. Our back-to-school open house will be on Thursday, August 21 for grades 1-3. |
