Special Services UpdateParents, Grandparents and Community Members,
As the end of the school year grows near, there are many exciting activities planned for students. This year’s graduation will be Friday, May 31 at the University of Akron’s, E.J. Thomas Hall.
This Spotlight focuses on our graduates. This year Special Services has 54 students graduating. These students have worked very hard to successfully complete their programs and earn a high school diploma from Springfield.
All Special Service’s staff are proud to have been a part of the student’s accomplishments throughout the years. I will be attending graduation and look forward to shaking each of the seniors hands as they walk across the stage to accept their diplomas. Congratulations class of 2013! You earned it.
Career Assessments
Each year, Springfield offers students with a disability in grade 10, an opportunity for a career assessment.
A career assessment involves a variety of assessment techniques to determine the strengths and weaknesses of each student. This assessment will enable you, your child and other personnel to make the best decision possible regarding his/her future goals for post-secondary school and/or employment.
The career assessment is provided by the Springfield Local Schools at no cost to you. The assessment will take place during the school day in the FALL at the Portage Lakes Career Center (PLCC). An evaluator from Career Assessment Systems, Inc (CAS) will complete the assessment. After the assessment is complete and the report is written, you will receive a copy of the report. Participation in this evaluation does not mean your son/daughter will need to attend the PLCC in the future.
We have mailed permission forms home. Your permission is needed before the assessment can be completed. If you would like your son/daughter to participate in a career assessment, please complete the form and return it no later than May 31, 2013 to the teacher who writes your child’s IEP.
