ATTENDANCE NEWS
Roosevelt students have continued to strive for excellence in attendance during the first quarter of this year with an overall percentage of 96%. Over eighty-eight students came to school everyday while ten classrooms were over 96% which is our school goal for the year. If one would visit Roosevelt, the Perfect Attendance banner could be found hanging outside Room 208 due to the fact that their averages for the months of August, September, and October were close to 99%. Students enjoyed a treat and special time with Mrs. Brown. Congratulations to the following students in Mrs. Eberts? homeroom. In the months of August and September, all classrooms except one reached our school goal of 96% while for the month of October, eight classrooms did. Because of our focus on attendance, our averages indicated on our state report card have risen each year. We hope that this year will be no exception !!
ROOSEVELT'S "A PERSON OF CHARACTER"
To replace last year?s ?Caught Being Good? or ?Good Deeds? program, the staff this year is trying to develop positive character traits in our students that will hopefully last a lifetime. Each month, we will choose a trait such as responsibility, courtesy, friendship, etc. Teachers then take time to share some examples with students. Throughout the month, students are then recognized for displaying this trait to others, not just in a single incident, but perhaps over several days. Certificates and recognition on morning announcements as well as one person per classroom being chosen as the ?Person of Character? for the month will be recognized at a special assembly.
BABES IN TOYLAND
We are proud to have seven students as part of the Babes in Toyland cast hail from the halls of Roosevelt. We know that they will do a fine job ! Thanks to our Parent Group for treating our students to $2.00 of their admission fee. Our entire school will attend the December 8 matinee. Please return permission slips as well as your portion of the admission fee which is $3.00.
WORDMASTER TOP TEN/TEN AND OVER
Congratulations to all of Roosevelt?s third and fourth grade students who participated in this competition.
HALLOWEEN FESTIVAL
A Roosevelt tradition was started this year! Instead of the traditional Halloween classroom parties and parade, Parent Group, along with the support of staff, planned and organized a fun-filled event for all to enjoy. Eight stations were set up in different areas of the building. At the sound of the bell, students moved from area to area enjoying the many events -- musical chairs, a ?touchy, feely? table, a tractor-drawn hay ride, the ?monster?s ball?, games in the gym and field area, storytelling, pumpkin carving and decorating. Parents and students alike had a great time. Juice and homemade cookies were donated by parents as well as a take home treat bag for each student. We truly thank our Parent Group for their many hours of hard work and dedication to our school. This event would never have been possible without them.
THANKS! THANKS! THANKS!
The Roosevelt staff extends a big thank you to the residents of Springfield for their support of issues 84, 85, 86.
THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE
here is still time to support our annual food drive. Those attending the Skating Party on Wednesday, November 24 are asked to bring canned goods. Our last collection day at school is Tuesday, November 30. All donated items will go to WKDD in support of their LONG HAUL AGAINST HUNGER.
Thanks for your generosity for those in need of our help.
ROOSEVELT?S HOLIDAY MUSICAL
Grades 2 & 4 will be center stage this year for our annual holiday musical under the direction of Mrs. Green. Please join us for some holiday cheer on Monday, December 13 in the high school auditorium.

October 2004 News
Wow ! Way to go students of Roosevelt ! Our attendance average
for the months of August and September was 97%. All students names who
had Perfect Attendance were read during morning announcements and a listing
was sent home in the Friday Parent Communication Envelope. Several classrooms
were above our school average with a 98% average -- Ms. Parke, Room 312, Mrs.
DiLauro, Room 311, Mrs. Misanko, Room 201 and Mrs. Stockwell, Room 209. Were
extremely proud of Mrs. Eberts class for achieving a 99% average. Students
were awarded ribbons to wear for the month and will have breakfast with Mrs.
Brown. Congratulations to Room 208 !!
PARENT LETTERS will be mailed each month to all students
whose absences/tardies exceed the state minimum acceptable
attendance average of 93%.
CONFERENCE FORMS will be sent with all students in the Parent Communication Envelope next Friday, October 22. We hope that parents will take the opportunity to meet with their
childs teacher to exchange information about student progress.
These bright green forms are due back to school A.S.A.P.
Confirmation of your childs scheduled conference time will be sent
in the report cards on Friday, November 5. ALL FINES AND FEES
MUST BE PAID IN ORDER TO RECEIVE REPORT CARDS.
Its almost time for HALLOWEEN ! Our afternoon-long celebration
will begin at 1:00 on Friday, October 29. If the weather cooperates, students
will move from station to station participating in different activities that
will be set up outside in the field. We are even hoping to have a HAY RIDE !
Therefore, please send a simple costume for your child that will enable her/him
to move freely about the field area. Reminder: No look-alike weapons, fake blood,
or masks which cover the entire face will be permitted. We also ask that costumes
cover the midriff section of the body. Costumes should be sent to school in
a paper bag with the student name clearly marked. Thanks to Parent Group for
undertaking this special fun-filled event for the students !! Parent volunteers
are always welcome and very much needed. Please send a note
with your child if you are able to help in any capacity.
Beginning October 25, Roosevelt will again support WKDDs LONG HAUL AGAINST
HUNGER by collecting canned goods and nonperishable items for distribution by
the Akron=Canton Regional Food Bank. We are hoping to reach our school goal
of 1500 pounds by Thanksgiving. Your generosity would be much appreciated.
Springfield Local School District is seeking voter support for the RENEWAL OF
ISSUES 84, 85, AND 86. ALL ARE RENEWALS AND WILL NOT INCREASE TAXES. Even though
they do no add to our districts local revenue, they are vitally important
to the continued
financial stability of our schools. Your support for these levies will help
insure our districts solvency through 2006. PLEASE VOTE FOR ISSUES 84,
85, & 86.
Until next month,
Mrs. Brown,
Principal
