SPRINGFIELD BOARD OF EDUCATION REPORT

February 11, 2004

 

 

The Springfield Board of Education held its regular meeting on Tuesday, February 10, 2004, at Springfield High School.

 

Larry Swartz was employed as a .42 high school math teacher for the remainder of the 2003-2004 school year.

 

Mackenze Mangan and Tara Roach were employed as home instructors on an as needed basis.

 

The following were employed as substitute teachers:   Jaime Masternak, Amanda Chiofolo, Daniel Richmond,

David Russ, and Melissa Henterly.

 

Sarah  Boss, Kimberly Keim, Dawn Lett, Nancy Sumey, Willda Maskovich, Sandra Evangelist, and

Dawnanna Colson were employed as classified substitutes.

 

Barb Lewis was employed as an 8-hour custodian at Young Elementary School, and John McQuillen was employed as an 8-hour high school custodian.

 

Mary Ann Morgan was employed as a Young Elementary School Educational Assistant I, and

Ruby McDanield was employed as a substitute bus monitor.

 

The resignation of Michelle Zarges as Assistant Girlsı Varsity Track Coach was accepted.

 

Supplemental coaching contracts for 2004 spring sports were approved as follows: Amy Ventura, Softball Varsity Assistant Coach; Roger Errington, Softball JV Coach; Steve Shaffer, Boysı Track Assistant Coach; Miguel Hunt and Ryan Calcie, Girlsı Track Assistant Coaches (split contract). 

 

The resignation of Melissa Galloway as an Extended Learning Opportunities teacher was accepted, and

Dave Jurmanovich was approved to receive $20 per hour from grant funds to serve as a substitute Learning Opportunities instructor.

 

Cathy Berlo, Lisa Putt, Ed Brown, Kelly Midcap, Janice Mauldin, Tina Paterson, Margaret Amonett, and

Kristen Kittle-Drach were approved to receive $20 per hour from grant funds for developing curriculum during the 2003-2004 school year.

 

The High School Power lifting Team was granted permission to attend the Drug-Free NASA (National Athleteıs Strength Association) State Power lifting Championships, February 13, 2004 - February 15, 2004.

 

Being deemed unreasonable, uneconomical and/or impractical under present conditions to provide transportation on our buses to Immaculate Heart of Mary (Cuyahoga Falls), parents of students attending said school may qualify for an annual payment per child by waiving transportation, making application for a ³D² contract, signing same, performing according to the terms thereof, and submitting an invoice at the conclusion of the year.

 

An expenditures resolution was approved for expenditures of school funds for non-alcoholic beverages, food and other amenities for school district officials and employees and other persons as a valid public purpose of the school district and authorizing the superintendent and treasurer to approve such expenditures in accordance with the resolution.

 

A new 3-year contract with the Springfield Local Association of Classroom Teachers (SLACT), effective August 21, 2004, through August 20, 2007, was approved.

 

The next Regular Board of Education Meeting will be held Tuesday, March 9, 2004, 7 p.m. at Young Elementary School.
