SPRINGFIELD BOARD OF EDUCATION REPORT
March 10, 2004
The
Springfield Board of Education held its regular meeting on Tuesday, March 9,
2004, at Young Elementary School.
Young
School principal John Morris presented the Young Elementary School Continuous
Improvement Plan, and the Boyer Continuous Improvement Plan was presented by Ed
Benczo, Boyer Kindergarten Center Principal and his staff.
Les
Cheney, Spring Hill Assistant
Principal Chuck Sincere, and Jon Mazur gave a presentation of the National
School Fitness Foundation L.I.F.T. America School program.
Mackenze
Mangan was employed as a mild to moderate resource room teacher at Spring Hill
for the
2004-2005
school year.
Jodi
Netta was granted a leave of absence for the 2004-2005 school year to continue
a teaching assignment in Germany.
Michelle
Zarges was granted a coaching supplemental contract to coach Junior High Girlsı
Track.
The
resignations of Vicki Loftus, Schrop 2-hour cafeteria employee, and bus driver
Dennis Spindler were accepted.
Charleen
Sullivan and Harley Davis were employed as classified substitutes.
The
following substitute teachers were employed: Dana Fall, Katie Reese, Carol
Moore, Heather Leas,
Kerri
Riley, James Burns, and Brent Walters.
Employee
compensation for bus drivers who are occasionally used as temporary casual help
in the mechanicıs garage was approved at $7.50 per hour.
Cindy
Cullen was employed as a substitute Circle Reading instructor at $9.67 per hour
to be paid from grant funds.
The
resignation of Gary Villers from the 2003-2004 supplemental position of 7th
Grade Basketball coach was accepted.
Brian
Duncan was employed as 7th Grade Basketball Coach for the 2003-2004 school
year.
Rob
Lane and Mike Bluey will receive $20 per hour from intervention grant funds to
serve as substitute Extended Learning Opportunity instructors.
Sixth-grade
Proficiency Test Prep instructors were approved to be paid $20 per hour from
grant funds:

Graham, Nancy Gainer, Debbie Frank, Michelle Wagner, Sheila Cenker, Joyce
Housley,
Elizabeth
Mitchell, Gina McFarland, Kurt Schenkenberger, Tricia Law, Carol Tolson, Jeff Miller,
Nancy
Willett, MaryBeth Mitchell, Jenny Droppleman, Holly Reed, Scott Freeze, Dawn
Henry, Sue Garman, Jaimie Masternak, and Melinda Weakland.
Sonya
Cunningham and Matthew Schlarb were approved to be paid $20 per hour from
intervention grant funds to provide Extended Learning Opportunities outside the
school day.
Debbie
Petry, Debbie Reed, Marsha Lafferty, and Cindy Alcorn were approved to be paid
$1000 from Ohio Reads grant funds to serve as building Volunteer Coordinators
for the second semester of the 2003-2004 school year.
Overnight
trips were approved for the following:
Spring Hill Junior High students to Washington, D.C.; Schrop
fifth-graders to COSI in Columbus, Ohio; and the National High School
Powerlifting Championship finals in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
School
calendars for 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 were approved.
Approval
was given for all-day kindergarten to be held at the Boyer Kindergarten Center,
effective with the start of the 2004-2005 school year.
Transportation
for Jesse Stone was deemed to be unreasonable and impractical under present
conditions.
Hometown
Health Network and Medical Mutual insurance renewal rates were approved, and a
service contract for Internet service between the Northeast Ohio Network for
Educational Technology (provider) and Springfield Local Schools (customer) was
approved, effective January 8, 2004.
Several
donations were recognized: Mr. Hahe donated a complete computer and printer set
to Mrs. Holly Reedıs 6th grade class at Schrop, Brian and Cindy Cullen donated
a Parmi 3 Horsepower Sno-Thro snow blower to Schrop and the Spartan Gym funded
the trip to the National Weightlifting Finals.
Administrative
contracts were approved for Business Manager Dan Laskos, Director of Technology
Marilyn Croskey, and principals Cynthia Frola, Bob Bauer, Lisa Vardon, Jennifer
Ganzer, Chuck Sincere, Lucille Brown, John Morris, and Dan Dutton.
The
next Regular Board of Education Meeting will be held Thursday, April 1, 2004, 7
p.m. at Roosevelt Elementary School.
