SPRINGFIELD BOARD OF EDUCATION REPORT

April 2, 2004

 

The Springfield Board of Education held its regular meeting on Thursday, April 1, 2004, at Roosevelt Elementary School.

 

Lakemore School principal Dan Dutton presented the Lakemore  Elementary School Continuous Improvement Plan, and the Roosevelt Elementary School Continuous Improvement Plan was presented by Lucy Brown and members of the Roosevelt staff.

 

There was a special presentation of Greg McBride, Russ Pastick and SLACT scholarships by

George Pounders.

 

Due to lack of licensure, three teachers were released from employment, and two teachers were released due to a reduction in force.

 

Erica Richardson, Lakemore music teacher, was approved at 70% on a continuing contract.

 

One-year limited contracts were approved for 74 teachers and 7 one-year limited contracts were approved pending proper certification.  Having met the requirements of appropriate certification and credit hours, seven teachers were granted continuing contracts.

 

Les Cheney was employed to supervise the weight room and teach weight training classes as needed at 50%, without benefits, for the 2004-2005 school year.

 

Frank Chenoweth was employed at 50%, with no benefits, as Audio/Visual Director for the 2004-2005 school year.

 

Lynn Klein was employed as a home instructor on an as needed basis.

 

Resignations were accepted from educational assistants Karen Bennett and Shannon Bennett.

 

Tammie Langovsky¹s maternity leave request for the 2004-2005 school year was approved.

 

The resignation (retirement) of Grant Luton, Springfield High School teacher, was accepted, effective at the end of the 2003-2004 school year.

 

Boyer Kindergarten Center Principal Ed Benczo was granted 15 days of extended time to assist with transition to all day kindergarten.

 

Tami Applegarth, Conley Frees, Peggy Gannon, and Kara Kaufman were approved to receive $20 per hour for developing curriculum during the 2003-2004 school year, to be paid from grant funds.

 

Roosevelt teachers Dana Floyd and Connie Wearley were nominated by former students to be honored in Who¹s Who Among America¹s Teachers.  This is an honor for teachers who have most significantly impacted students¹ lives.

 

The next Regular Board of Education Meeting will be held Tuesday, May 11, 2004, 7 p.m. at the Boyer Kindergarten Center.
